Managing risk is an inherent part of delivering organisational success today. A study reveals that 75% of the companies that existed in 1950 will no longer exist in 2025 - this highlights the increasing role of understanding risk management from a business perspective. IRM's Young Leaders' Program on Business Risk Management is a practical simulation based course in enterprise risk management that will allow you to learn tools and techniques that can be immediately applied at work, in family business or in your startup.

It covers the fundamentals of enterprise risk management in a dynamic and interactive learning environment, using the theory and practice of risk management in-line with international standards and industry best practices including the COSO and ISO Guidelines. Risk is no longer about insurance, it's about taking decisions effectively, identifying mitigation plans for risks and defining the role of stakeholders in managing those risks.

The course uses a combination of case studies, practical exercises and current affairs to bring material to life. Our trainers will bring you a wealth of industry expertise. On completion of this course you should have a strong foundation about the effectiveness of risk management.

Key Facts

Equivalent to degree level.
There are no formal entry requirements.
Completion of the certificate will mean that you have also completed the first part of the International Diploma in Enterprise Risk Management, leaving just 4 modules to complete to achieve the full diploma, which enables you to start your journey to become a Certified Member of the IRM (CMIRM)
IRM's qualifications are delivered and assessed in English. If you are a non-UK student, and English is not your first language, we recommend you have an Academic IELTS score of 6.0 (with no element less than 5.5) or equivalent evidence of competence in the English language, before commencing your studies.
There are two enrolment periods each year and students should consider the time commitment for study before enrolling on the course; the Certificate can be completed within 5-10 months, and study time available will depend on when the full course fees have been paid for the enrolment period open at that time. Students enrolling later in the enrolment period will need to consider the amount of time remaining to study for their scheduled exam session before enrolling on to the course.

The course consists of two modules which are studied together. The exams for both are sat in the same exam period that relates to their enrolment window.
Students undertaking the International Certificate in Enterprise or Financial Services Risk Management qualification must complete the qualification within two years of enrolling as a student. Three attempts are permitted within this timeframe. After this point, students will be required to re-enrol and pay a further enrolment fee.
An indicative study time for the qualification is between 180 and 200 hours per module.
Both Modules are assessed by a computer-based 90 minutes multiple choice examination.
Successful graduates automatically become Certificate Members (IRMCert).
There are two examination sessions for the Certificate. These are normally the first week in June and the last week in November. Examinations can be taken at any Pearson VUE exam centre.
